Ending the Year on a Positive Note

Holiday Thoughts

Holiday Thoughts

While many people in the area have lost everything, there’s no denying we have all been impacted by the September hurricane. Whether you’ve been at the hub of recovery efforts or observing the complexities of the aftermath, the psychological effects have left people reeling, especially those who have been displaced from their homes.

Christmas Eve will mark three months since Hurricane Fiona made landfall. A lot has happened since people were told to evacuate. The unravelling of grief and loss, the creation of a new social network, coping with current living conditions, and the acceptance of the ‘new normal’.

Compared to other community disasters, our recovery efforts have moved swiftly. The images of destroyed buildings and municipal infrastructure repairs are waning. Displaced residents have shelter, food and clothing. Aid packages have been distributed and the future looks a little brighter for some.

As the Donations Coordinator, I have been at the centre of so many profound acts of kindness, selflessness and giving to others. While my heart aches whenever I think of our displaced residents, it has been heartwarming to be part of this wonderful spirit of generosity.

I thank the Town for their trust in me to assist with their relief efforts. I’m looking forward to 2023 to watch the next phase of our community rebuilding.

Leadership

I’m also pleased to share that I completed my Certification for the Connections Leadership Journey™ Program.

What does this mean for you, your teams and your colleagues? Well, strong leadership has never been more sought after and so highly valued. Working with me allows you to grow your leadership skills exponentially by participating in this leadership training and development. I will take you on a journey that will help you create a healthy work culture.

This modern-day eight-module training program has a flexible design and delivery. It can be offered virtually or in person, and the modules can be sold separately or bundled.

Another exciting component to the leadership training, for all levels of leaders, and my favourite, it contains three personal assessments!

Giving Back

On behalf of you, my faithful clients, thank you for your support in 2022. Please know that I will continue with my annual donations to celebrate the season. This is my way of giving back.

One very valuable service that I support is The Salvation Army. As we have observed so many times, recalling the hot meals they prepared and delivered to truckers during Covid, and now since Fiona, The Salvation Army continues to be an essential leader in our community.

If there’s ever a time in history when our area needs the ministry of The Salvation Army, it is now. Their shield represents hope, and their faith encourages us during moments that are dark and dismal. If you are in a position to ‘give back’ here is one place to consider: https://salvationarmy.ca/ where you can be sure your hard-earned money will be put to good use.

There have been so many hearts opened to us since September 24th. Please take this holiday season to reflect on the support that has been an inspiration to us all. I know I will reflect on the outpouring of care that occurred in our community and beyond. It’s been powerful.

I hope we can all remember the best of the human spirit these past three months: generosity, kindness, empathy and strength.
